


Roboré
Known as the "Pearl of Eastern Bolivia," Roboré is an emerging destination located about 410 km from Santa Cruz de la Sierra, in the Chiquitos province. It stands out for its unique mix of mountain landscapes, hot springs, rock art, Chiquitana community, and vibrant culture.






Main attractions and activities
Aguas Calientes (Thermal River)
A warm river (~40°C) about 5 km long, featuring areas known as “Los Hervores” and “El Playón.”
Ideal for therapeutic baths, exfoliation with fish, community spa (Spa Vitalia), and birdwatching (toucans).
Entrance fee: Bs 10–30 depending on access point.
Sucuará Lagoon
Located 3 km from Roboré; designated as a Municipal Wildlife Reserve since 2017.
Home to species such as ocelots, tapirs, anteaters, and diverse birdlife.
Viewpoints and Mountain Ranges
Highlights include the Tucabaca Valley Viewpoint (“Before Heaven”), accessible via an easy 1–2 hour trek from Santiago de Chiquitos, offering stunning views of Chiquitano forests and the Pantanal wetlands.
The Chochís Tower (“David’s Tower”), a 553 m vertical rock crowned by the Marian Sanctuary, is a popular spot for hikes and panoramic views.
Rock Art rupestre
Roboré is the departmental capital of rock art, with at least 93 identified sites in caves like Miserandino and Yororobá.
Features prehistoric paintings of monkeys, birds, geometric figures, and ancestral scenes.
Santiago de Chiquitos and Chochís
Santiago: historic Jesuit mission with a colonial church and main plaza.
Chochís: village at the base of Chochís Tower; offers hikes to waterfalls like “Velo de la Novia” and artisanal workshops.






Culture and crafts
Artisan centers: Roboré hosts collective workshops run by Chiquitana women producing textiles, wood carvings, jewelry, and garments inspired by rock art motifs (e.g., Amanecer Robore, La Pauroca).
Festivals: The ConservArte Festival in Santiago celebrates music, art, and environmental conservation with outdoor workshops and exhibitions.

How to get there?
From Santa Cruz: Approximately 410 km via paved Route 4, about 6 hours by car or bus/trufi with connections through San José de Chiquitos.
Aerodrome: Roboré has a private airstrip for small aircraft.
Within the municipality: 4×4 vehicles or guided tours are recommended for remote areas (waterfalls, rock art monuments). In town, taxis, mototaxis, and local guides are available.
Additional information
Climate and best season: Warm tropical climate with temperatures between 22°C and 34°C. Rainy season (November to March) may cause difficult road conditions.
Recommendations:
Light clothing, swimwear, comfortable footwear, sunscreen, insect repellent, and hydration.
Carry cash in small bills for spas, guides, and other services.
Dry season (summer and autumn) is ideal to avoid difficult routes and wildfire risks.
