Municipal Zoo

The Municipal Zoo of South American Fauna Noel Kempff Mercado is one of the main attractions in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, and a leading institution in regional biodiversity conservation. It’s an ideal space to connect with nature, learn about South American wildlife, and enjoy an educational and recreational experience with family.

What can you do at the zoo?

The zoo is home to over 2,000 animals from 233 species, with a focus on native South American fauna. Visitors can explore four circuits and ten thematic zones featuring mammals, birds, reptiles, fish, and nocturnal animals. It also includes an aquarium, inaugurated in 2007, which houses about 60 species of fish, most of which are native.

One of the highlights of the zoo is the motoyoé, a tree over 212 years old located behind the food court — considered a natural symbol of the park.

The zoo offers guided tours, educational workshops, and special events throughout the year to promote environmental education and family recreation.
